Michel Mercy defines himself as an Innovator in Film, Art, Books
and Life.
Born in France and lived in Africa, Michel is now based in London
where he has developed an art form simply known as Griboullage in
his private studio.
Griboullage is the name to be given to an interpretation and form
of art using three different medium on paper. Pastel and Oil for
the foreground and Charcoal for the shape and the form discerned in
the colour. It is also a French word used by children when they
instinctively merge colours in their painting. It is a free fall in
painting, the opposite of basic colour essence. It is a non-logical
way of combining colour. Griboullage could be the "Fin de Siecle"
of each time in painting. Griboullage uses no references, the
creations come mainly from the subconcious. This expands vision,
the form changing as you work. A flower becomes a face, the wind a
bird. It is a form and shape of the past crossing over to the
present. Griboullage is a spontaneity which is contemporaneous with
the inspiration of the subconcious. It is done as you wish, for the
colour and the shape will automatically appear and decide when the
work is finished. It is a game of colour from which the definition
of the subject emerges. As such it has no roots in drawing, but can
encompass a sketch or outline drawing of an object on natural
scenery.
